coffee, finally.
clearly, i got spoiled.
drinking coffee that you watched being roasted in your kitchen is.... well, it's probably more amazing than you might think.
and this morning, with my new, adorable little french press, and my bag of coffee that i bought at the roaster down the street (2 days old, no less)- well, together we made a fantastic, nostalgic, absolutely delightful cup. black as midnight on a moonless night.

my friend brent came through town this week. he was the only person that ever visited me in houston, and the first person to stay with me in colorado.
accomplished:
walk five miles for beer.
drive through the mountains with the windows down.
listen to nirvana.
eat at pizza hut in south park, co.
take a bagillion photos.
here's a few
(all will be on flickr soon)

south park, colorado. we decided that it was a town which could easily be depicted using construction paper.

a friendly reminder
on my way home this afternoon (with a backseat full of flowers and house plants!) i was behind a car with 3 glorious stickers:
1. they might be giants.
2. butt trumpet.
3. krcc (local npr station)
and i suddenly realize that if i join krcc they might send me one of those stickers, too. cause i love npr. and my bumper is lonely.

kind of a rough day.
but let's not get into it.
"what's he allergic to? mountain's majesty?"
a happy ending: sticky sweet movie with leah and a purring cuddly kitten.

getting used to.
people are weird here.
or maybe people are normal here.
everyone in texas thinks that they're in the friendliest state.
clearly they've never been to colorado.
where when you hold the door for a stranger, they spend the 15 second walk to the car telling you all kinds of personal information without hesitation.
it's kind of nice.
and if you haven't been listening to this, you should start.

it was cold today.
i got to wear fuzzy boots.
and i designed some new business cards and postcards.
on the down side, quigley was stuck behind the refrigerator for, judging by her food bowl, the ENTIRE day. good thing i came home a bit early. i had to have the landlord come over and help me move the thing cause it's huge and wedged nicely in it's perfectly shaped spot. so for 15 minutes i had to sit there and listen to her cry and hope she was okay.
which she is. she's also been giving the fridge the stink eye all night.

waiting waiting waiting.
yesterday was the first day i've had in colorado with no plans. so, of course, even though i still woke up at 7am, i didn't get out of bed until 1. it was lovely. for the last week it has been rainy and cool, and lying around with the windows open has been heaven.
i've gotten lots of presents in the mail this week. this and this (in 8x10) are my favorites.
and now i wait.

i haven't thought about the smashing pumpkins in a long time.
tonight, at hobby lobby:
wife: where have you been?
husband: looking for tassels.
i'm going to get up early and ride my bike tomorrow. at least that's the plan in my head. also grocery shopping and starting a new crochet project. i couldn't resist this lovely green and blue and white and brown marbled yarn i found tonight. it needs to be a scarf.
the npr station here is delightful. i find myself listening to it way more that i ever listened to the radio before. and tonight on sound opinions they played some bit from the smashing pumpkins and it reminded me of my wedding. it was a strange nostalgic moment. neither good nor bad. just there.
also, i bruised my thumb today, and quigley is playing (tap dancing, really) with her shadow.

adjustment
so, it's weird that i live here now. i've taken a bazillion polas, but my scanner in buried in a box somewhere, so it'll be a few days before i can post any new shots.
i got a job today. i think i might actually enjoy it, too. bonus.
also, my parents left this morning.
it's suddenly very real.
let the unpacking begin...
