mr. popularity and my big problem.

jeff gave his first lecture today as a graduate student, to a class of undergraduates. apparently it was a big hit. at least one other grad student attended, and sent the professor an amazingly complimentary email about it. i can't say i'm too surprised, because #1 he's been showing me bits and pieces of it as it was in progress, and while i understand almost none of it, he does an excellent job of explaining the jokes, #2 he's a great speaker. i mean, really. and #3 he compared himself to a transvestite. i can't imagine a group of 18-20 year olds not loving that.

right at the beginning of our relationship he was working on a lecture that he had to give to his colleagues at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. it was about genetics and math and all kinds of things that give me a headache, BUT (!!!) after a hilarious conversation between us and a few other friends, he found a way to include brendan fraser AND herpes in the lecture. i kept proof. so there you go.

so anyway, i'm on my fourth attempt at making the perfect bag. or at least the perfect bag for me. ugh. the problem is that i have too many standards for this thing, and it seems nearly impossible to fit them all into one item. the other problem is houston. see, i would really prefer to have a bag that i can carry messenger style for my walk. however, come march it will be much too hot for me to have anything other than the necessary clothes touching my body. ugh.

i think i'm going to settle for 2. one for most of the time (smallish, carries only the necessities), and a larger messenger that will also accommodate the laptop.

i just hate switching purses all the time.

i give up.

my toes are jealous of my fingers, too.

jeff found this today. it's really really worth checking out.

sagal vs obama suporters, continued.

because it's hilarious.

this week on wait wait... don't tell me,

"last week we made some jokes about the supporters of barack obama. we kinda compared them to a cult. we sort of implied that they're a bit like scientologists, and we got a lot of outraged letters accusing us of going too far, of revealing our biases, and worst, of being unfunny. which, i purport nothing, is exactly the response we get from scientologists when we make fun of them."

i'm going to go vote sometime this week. hooray for early voting!

i'm still working on filling up my etsy shop. should have some more prints up by next week.

under construction.

my etsy store is finally up, though not yet fully stocked.

plink plink crash.

with my vote still up in the air, i found this quote about obama from peter sagal on wait wait hilarious and so very true (don't get me wrong, i enjoy obama a great deal) :

"critics say that his campaign is turning into a kind of cult, with his rallies seeming more like religious meetings. supporters say that's ridiculous because religious revival meetings usually don't feature speeches by jesus himself."

just can't help but chuckle at that.

also, i read an interesting little blurb today in the week about how smokers (and others who do harm to their own bodies) actually cost society less than most people (in healthcare, etc...) because they die so much earlier. it's awfully nice of them.

jeff is on his way back from dallas in a thunderstorm. ick. his friend isaac got stranded at the airport there. good times.

in the middle.

i'm doing some super serious house cleaning today. i'm gonna be a proud pants about it and make a list (even though it's a little embarrassing how cluttered things had gotten...)

*filled a paper bag with books, dvd's, cd's that we don't want anymore (may increase in size when jeff gets home). i have so much more bookshelf space now!!

* cleared off the dining room table (was overflowing with the free magazines i get at work, old mail, scarves, mittens, change, cameras, etc..).

*vacuumed WHOLE apartment- made possible by my brand new upright vacuum!! hooray!

*3 loads of laundry.

*cleaned out fridge

there's still a few things left to do before tomorrow- jeff's friend is coming to spend a week with us.

i love a clean house.

.

so i'm kindof excited about this thing here. it was fun (and really frustrating) to work on. and it isn't perfect, and it isn't even exactly what i wanted, but still very cool. and i like it. and i learned a lot trying to figure it all out.

if anyone wants one, you might wait until i get them up in my etsy shop. shipping wont be as pricey.

past bedtime.

why can't i sleep anymore?

i read something the other day about how people who use their cell phones right before bed have a much harder time sleeping.

except i don't use my phone before bed. or ever, really.

and i actually do sleep, eventually... but it's always restless. and filled with weird dreams. and not my typical dreams, which have always been quite elaborate, but more scary weird.

why am i even posting this?

so, cookie monster was on the bryant park project today. or at least the one we listened to today. and it may have been a cookie monster re-run from a while back, but it was great nonetheless.

he eats cookies. and bicycles. and fire hydrants. in case you didn't know.

also, houston had our very own Anonymous protest yesterday. i'd comment on that, but i don't want to get sued.

{heart}breaking news.

by closing plants in the netherlands, mexico and massachusetts, Polaroid will be ceasing production of instant film by the end of this year.

thanks a lot, assholes.

my plan: buy nothing but 600, 690, and 669 film for the next 10 months. ug. this is going to be expensive.

this is something that's been talked about for years, and the fact that it's actually going to happen... well, it just makes me incredibly sad. i've never gotten more joy from photography as i do when i'm waiting for one of those stinkin things to develop.

i guess it's a good thing i've got a stash of 120 and 35 in the fridge.

slow day.

this is a very strange week. my routine is completely broken. oh well.

after a long, much needed hiatus from burroughs (i tried unsuccessfully to read the nova trilogy a couple years ago), i'm giving the western lands a try. we'll see how that goes. i've been surviving on my stash of unread books since we moved here, but the pile is rapidly diminishing... i'm going to have to just suck it up and see if i can find a used bookstore that i like. i've even put together a rough list of titles to look for, but i'm always looking for suggestions...

jeff's going climbing this weekend... driving halfway across texas to find a spot that is supposedly very similar to quartz mountain, where he used to climb in ok. he's been going to the climbing gym several nights a week with the outdoor club. that, plus his more manageable workload, is making our lives much more pleasant.

i have a little less than a little less (it's february, after all) than a month to decide who to vote for. thus far, i'm finding it almost impossible. and i'm not looking for reasons why i should go this way or that. i have all the information i need. and i probably won't decide until i have the ballot in my hand (mom, you wont be alone...).

on a happier note, nate and leah (in colorado) are the delegates for their precinct and get to go to the democratic national convention in denver!! hooray!

anniversary.

there were no photobooths or forts in the living room this year, but there were sure plenty of root beer floats, leftovers, polaroids and gilmore girls.
